Teaching for the Future
"Teenage Training & Development Programme"

Under the instigation of Stuart Mortimer with the support and backing of The Association of Woodturners  of Great Britain and the Worshipful Company of Turners the first national weekend of the  ‘Teenage Training & Development Programme’ was held at the home of Stuart & Linda Mortimer in Grateley Hampshire on August 2006. Ten young people (9 boys and 1 girl) aged 14-18 years attended with 5 tutors (Stuart Mortimer,
Gary Rance, Tony Witham (National AWGB Chairman) Reg Hawthorne and Ron Caddy.

The cost and equipment was financed by the Association, Company and tool manufacturers. My contribution to the weekend was discuss and demonstrate Pen Making, with all my Pen Making requirements being supplied by Axminster Power Tools Ltd.

It proved a very beneficial training weekend with new knowledge and friendships being gained.

Building on the success of 2006 this years Youth Training weekend in Hampshire will be held during the last weekend in August. (24th-26th ) (We couldn’t have been to bad as instructors as 4 of the students from 2006 are returning again)! This year in addition to Pens I will be teaching the creation of Desk Clocks with my materials (pen kits and clock inserts) being supplied by Darel Nish of Craft Supplies USA.

Building on the success of the 2006 event other regional  Youth Training events are being held this year across the country .
